One of the trendiest communities today, Wicker Park evolved extensively in the century following the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Spearheaded by Charles Wicker, a prominent businessman and city alderman, the neighborhood swapped out steel mills, cigar factories, and breweries for coffee shops, music venues, and restaurants—though some of its old charm remains today. Located northwest of the Loop, it has become a magnet for young professionals and young families alike who sustain the neighborhood’s energy and vitality.
